FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LONGMONT, CO USA – Boulder venture capitalist Brad Feld and his wife, Amy Batchelor, have become the first sponsors of TinkerMill, the Longmont Makerspace.
Feld and Batchelor are providing their sponsorship directly.
Feld, along with his partner (and Longmont resident) Seth Levine and associate Eugene Wan, from The Foundry Group, are now members of TinkerMIll and part of our creator community.
As is becoming tradition, we will also be dedicating our men’s bathroom to Brad, with a plaque that reads: “The Best Ideas Often Come At Inconvenient Times – Don’t Ever Close Your Mind To Them.” -B. Feld
“We are deeply honored by the early support TinkerMill has received from Brad and Amy who have become our very first sponsor just as we get this thing going” said Scott Converse, Founder and President of TinkerMill. “Brad is one of the most forward thinking investors and technologists I have ever met and his help in making this real and belief in what we’re doing has been an inspiration to us”.
“TinkerMill has in less than a year become Colorado’s largest makerspace with close to 100 active members made up of creative people with deep and broad sets of interests and capabilities that include but aren’t limited to materials science, mechanical and electrical engineering, software architecture and development, networking design, security (white, grey and black), embedded systems, medicine, music, art, prototyping, fabrication, welding, woodworking, interface design, sculpture and biology. Our members range from high school robot builders to PhD’s in AI and molecular biology to startup veterans and executives with deep experience in business with everyone you can imagine in between.” says Converse. “it’s an incredible mashup community of creatives that, because of the broad knowledge base, can come up with and actually build things most groups can’t even dream of”.
TinkerMill is committed to bringing together technology, art and business to help create and incubate products, new companies and businesses as well as new creative opportunities for it’s membership and for the residents of our community as a whole. It serves as a hub for people to learn, teach and create and acts as an open community workshop full of tools and knowledge the membership of innovators can use anytime the urge strikes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
TinkerMill, at 1840 Delaware Pl. Unit A, is Non Profit Colorado Corporation with 501(c)3 status pending based in Longmont* Colorado.
*Longmont is centrally located between 5 major universities and is 15 minutes from Boulder – a national center of startup and entrepreneurial activity and 30 minutes from Denver, the artistic, cultural and sports center of the region. Longmont is the the only city in Colorado that has approved, funded and started the build out of a Google Fiber like municipally owned gigabit network running to every home and business in the city. The network will begin to be a available in late 2014; It is currently one of the highest per captia patent filing cities in America with 45 patents per 10K residents (national avg is 4 per 10K residents); It has an exceptionally high level of education among it’s citizens and recently added Brad Feld and Amy Batchelor, who bought a house in the Longmont zip code area in 2014, as residents.
